Shankaprakshalana is one of the cleansing techniques used in Hatha yoga and in the traditional system of Ayurveda. The word Shankhaprakshalana comes from two words. Shankha meaning "conch" and prakshalana meaning to wash completely. It is the process of cleaning the intestinal tract with salt water.

  • This practice purifies the blood, removes toxins from the body
  • It improves digestion
  • It eliminates allergies and skin diseases (e.g. acne, neurodermatitis or psoriasis).
  • It also makes you feel fresh,light and rejuvenated.

Kunjal kriya is a cleansing technique used in Hatha yoga and in the traditional system of Ayurveda. The practice involves drinking warm salt water and then expelling it in order to clean out the stomach and upper digestive tract. Kunjal kriya is also known as vamana dhauti is meant for purification of the upper digestive tract. Dhauti is one of the six purification methods or Shatkarma of Hatha Yoga.

  • This practice cleans the digestive tract of any undigested food particles lingering in the stomach and esophagus. This undigested food can eventually enter the body as toxins,also removes gas, acidity and indigestion.
  • It removes extra mucus from the food pipe or esophagus.
  • It helps to relieve asthma, bronchitis, coughs and other respiratory problems.
Jala Neti

The Sanskrit word, jala, means “water”. The original meaning of neti is “to guide”. Therefore, jala neti means guiding water through the nasal passages to cleanse them. Jala neti is a traditional Ayurvedic and Yogic practice that clears the nose and sinus passages through nasal irrigation. Sea salt is dissolved into warm, pure water in a neti pot, a tool specifically designed for this purpose.

  • This process soothes the sensitive tissues inside the nose, which can assuage a bout of rhinitis or allergies.
  • It is beneficial in dealing with Sinusitis, migraine attacks,asthmatic conditions,sore throats, tonsils, and dry coughs.
  • It helps in hair growth
Ancient ayurvedic detox

Yogic science puts as much emphasis on regular cleansing processes as it does on asanas and pranayama. Without purification of the body, possibility to reap benefits from higher practices of yoga, are limited. With this in mind, Bodhi introduced the ancient ayurvedic shat karmas (6 purificatrory processes) as part of the YTT program to enable teachers to enhance their physical and mental well being. The processes are introduced gradually basis each teacher's readiness. The 6 processes are as listed. Neti, Dhauti, Nauli, Basti, Kapalabhati, Trataka. In each category there are several practises from basic to advanced level. The 200 hour program covers the basic detox and a few of the advanced techniques are initiated in the advanced teacher training courses.

Brahma Muhurtha class

The YTT program is a journey of self discovery at Bodhi. Individuals from all walks of life sign up for the program for various reasons and we at bodhi, take it upon ourselves to get them all on to the same plane at physical, mental, emotional and social well being. As part of this polishing process, we introduced an optional element of doing yoga at brahma muhurtha time at the centre. When we saw that this brought in some tremendous changes, in people, we continued this with every batch. So, here you come in to the studio between 3 and 4 am and experience the magic of the cosmic energy at its purest!

Free Abhyanga

One of the advantages of doing a yoga program with Bodhi is that you will have ready access to Ayurvedic treatments and therapies easily that keep you free from pain or discomfort of any kind. Two free Abhyanga sessions are offered to all Bodhi YTT students for them to experience the rejuvenating and cleansing qualities of a body massage that relieve stress and aches, be it due to lifestyle, work or any other reason.

Human anatomy and physiology session

Being a yoga teacher is much more than just teaching asanas to students. It is about understanding how the asanas works on the body and tweaking them to the level of the practitioner. At the same time, it is equally, if not more important to ensure the practices taught are not counter productive to a person's health condition. For this reason, bodhi covers the entire 11 organ systems of the human body with details that are most important from a yogic standpoint. Teachers gain an understanding of the systems, their organs, functionalities, etc. They also learn aspects that need utmost safety, caution and learn to respect the beautiful gadget that our bodies are.

Weight loss

The most popular reason for people to exercise today is undoubtedly weight loss and a certain sense of body image. While traditionally, yoga does not actively seek to provide weight loss as a goal. However, over the years of running this program at Bodhi, we noticed that invariably in each batch of YTT, we have students who are elated about how they lost anywhere between 4 to 8 kgs (in some extreme cases even up to 18 kgs) without any focus to do so. All they did was participate in the YTT program and follow instructions throughout and as a windfall gain notice better fitness, strength, energy and a few kilos less on the scale. So, we at bodhi started a practice of diligently recording basic health parameters of the students when they come on day 1 of the program and give them back stats of the same parameters on the last day. It has helped us gain a lot of insights on tangible benefits people have from the program and realise it is such a win win situation for both the student and us!

Diet and nutrition

Becoming a yoga teacher through Bodhi's YTT has many advantages, one of them is that each student gains at the end of the program a thorough understanding of the yogic approach to diet and nutrition. Bodhi is conscious about the plethora of diets that are in fad, however true to its Indic roots, we stay grounded in teaching ayurvedic principles that apply to food where we believe food is medicine. We also realise, that if we were to churn good quality yoga teachers, they need to have a sense of appropriate food that will fuel higher consciousness.

Celebration of Diversity

The beauty of Bodhi lies in the diverse students who have graduated from the YTT program at Bodhi. Why is this a beauty one may ask, the answer to that is, we believe each individual who walks into bodhi, enriches us in one way or another. Our faculty of trainers and experts gain equally from each batch of diverse students as they all bring with them cultures, traditions, challenges, belief systems, issues which through out the journey of discussions, debates, exchanges in the program serve as important knowledge base for the management to build upon. Having trained teachers from 40 different nationalities, bodhi takes pride into their body of work and also expresses gratitude to its wide network of students/teachers who have contributed to our learning in this path. We celebrate this diversity day in and day out.

Aerial Yoga

Another fun yoga style that is quickly gaining attention for all the right reasons is Aerial yoga. It is a combination of traditional yoga poses, pilates and dance with the use of a hammock. It defies gravity and allows you to perform various yoga poses that may be difficult to do on the ground, but easier in mid-air. Due to the nature of aerial yoga movements, almost all the body parts effortlessly to move and stretch. Muscles are toned and redefined, and joints are regenerated and strengthened due to these movements. This style also increases flexibility, digestion, balance, moods etc.

Acro Yoga

Out of the many variations of yoga available today, acroyoga stands out from the rest because it’s the most fun type of yoga which offers flexibility, mobility and core strength without much of the hard work that traditional exercise demands. This style basically combines traditional yoga with acrobatic skills taking the help of a partner in class. One partner is the base while the other is the flyer. The base supports the flyer in a series of movements that combine balance, strength and acrobatics.


These yoga trends making the world take notice has been incorporated into our YTT program so that our package in 200 hours allows every student to know the bare minimum of the newest inclusions, improvisations in the world of yoga.
